Don't worry. It's just me.

Technotics is ten years old

It's hard to believe, but yesterday marked the 10 year anniversary of the creation of Technotics, Inc.

I started Technotics back in 1998 based around messaging and collaboration in general, and around Lotus Notes and Domino as a specific discipline in the practice.  I left my real job as a Microsoft instructor and Lotus Notes consultant for another company, and armed with only street sense, a survival instinct, and a willingness to use bare knuckles, I went out on my own.

Sure, I did the research about starting your own consulting business.  But there was nothing in my education as an English major, or in my past experiences in retail, insurance, broadcast, or a dozen other jobs that could have prepared me for this.  It's been a most interesting trip, and I am glad I conjured Technotics into existence, although it took a lot of bat wings and eye-of-newt in the cauldron to do it.

Here are a couple of observations after a full 10 years of being behind the wheel.

1. If you have a dream, stop dreaming and do it.
2. When it comes right down to it, business is person to person.
3. Trust your instincts.
4. Consulting is no more risky or insecure than having a job working for someone else as long as you plan carefully and work hard.
5. It takes a lot of discipline to relax.  I know that sounds odd, but you have to be diligent about taking time off to ensure your quality of life.

Thank you, Lotus and IBM, for continuing to support collaboration.

Thank you to all of our clients, past and present, for trusting us with your infrastructure.

And my thanks to Rob Axelrod, for being the most interesting business partner imaginable.
