More information on SMTP spike Domino 8.5.2

There is a problem with SMTP and IBM Lotus Notes Domino 8.5.2 that has a technote to accompany it.

It seems to me that this would affect servers with running SMTP.

I changed my statistics collecting interval from 60 minutes to 5 minutes to see if I could capture the issue as it happens.

As you can see, between 3:03 PM and 3:08 PM EDT, the SMTP cpu utilization slammed hard against 100%.  This has happened a couple of times, and each time I had to kill the SMTP task on the server to get it to stop. Last time it happened was 11:30 this morning, and I saw it also at 11:30 ish over the weekend.

I wanted to track it and be notified via a text message on my phone.  The statistic is:

Field Name: Platform.Process.smtp.1.PctCpuUtil
Data Type: Number
Data Length: 8 bytes
Seq Num: 1
Dup Item ID: 0
Field Flags: SUMMARY
99.51

If you want to track this, you can add it to a view in the Statrep database.  If you want to be notified with an event, you should know that the stat  Platform.Process.smtp.1.PctCpuUtil doesn't exist in the Events4 database.  You'll have to add it, then you can track it when it goes over 80% or so.

More in a bit.
